Let’s talk about Coastal Scents Revealed and Revealed 2 palettes. I hope you took advantage of Coastal Scents Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale and got these babies for a little under $10 a pop. I was able to get these two for that price before Black Friday because of a friend on Poshmark. Normally they’re about $20 each. These have been on my wishlist for a while. Now that I’ve spent some quality time with them, I’ll share my thoughts. I was a little rough with them, as you can see.
If you weren’t aware, these two are dupes of the Naked 1, 2 and 3 palettes from Urban Decay (none I which I own, so I can’t compare them for you unfortunately.) Side note: I am not a fan of Urban Decay as a brand. That doesn’t mean I can’t be convinced later down the line… but for now I am not. I actually just gave a friend of mine all of the Urban Decay eye shadows that I owned (3 of them). When I say I am not a fan, I am not a fan. (However, I do plan on trying Naked Flushed some day.)
The Naked palettes are around $54 each (except Naked Basics which is $29). Let’s be realistic here: for a married woman with a mortgage and financial obligations, I don’t have $160 to spend on three single makeup palettes. Enter the Revealed palettes.
The Revealed palettes themselves are made of sturdy cardboard with a magnetic closure. These do not have mirrors, which is a downside for travel. Each palette has 20 different eyeshadow colors (the Naked palettes only have 12 in each palette).
They differ from each other slightly in quality: Revealed isn’t as smooth and buttery as Revealed 2, if at all. You can definitely tell they improved their formula between palettes. I noticed that the eye shadows in Revealed were a little dodgy. I didn’t know what I was going to get. The shimmery colors had an amazing smooth quality. The matte ones not so much, they reminded me of dirt. They also applied like dirt until I used a base. Problem solved, as I usually use a base anyway… but still, points were lost.
Revealed 2 was a bit more promising, I didn’t have a single issue with crumbly mattes or chunky glitter at all (coughUrbanDecaycough). The shadows in Revealed 2 were perfect shades of pink, and gorgeous. I loved the highlight colors in both of these palettes. Excellent quality and very pretty.
Overall: you can’t beat these palettes at $20 each full price, and definitely not when they’re on sale at around $10 each. To avoid the matte shadow disappointment in Revealed, prepare to use a base. I definitely recommend that you check these two out, I am happy with them!
