Let me tell you about my decor struggle. My style is spooky, dark, gothic victorian, sometimes medieval all year round. I don’t decorate for Halloween because I don’t need to. I’m proud of my little haunted home, that stays spooky 24/7/365. Keep in mind that there is a fine line between “classy spooky” and “tacky spooky”. I admit, I may step over to the tacky side with a few of my choices. If you’re looking for classier Halloween decor, let this be a mini-guide!
But truthfully, I’m a very picky home decorator. Lime green, orange, and “Halloween purple” have no place in my house; and neither do smiling Jack O’ Lanterns or anything that associates with having a “happy” Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be scary, right?
What To Look For
When shopping for decor, I look for things that are functional and things that will last a long time. I won’t be using these things for just one season; I’ll be using them daily. I stay away from plastic or melamine plates and cups. I avoid plastic “decoration” type items, and items with glitter.
The best time to shop for home decor for me is Halloween season. You can’t find classy and creepy things all year long. Halloween season is undoubtedly the one and only shopping season for me. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite online shops to make it easier on those of you with similar tastes!
