Halloween Decor For All Year Long

1875 Views

Let me tell you about my decor struggle: my style is spooky, dark, gothic Victorian, sometimes medieval all year round. I don’t decorate for Halloween because I don’t need to. I’m proud of my little haunted home, that stays spooky 24/7/365.  Keep in mind that there is a fine line between “classy spooky” and “tacky spooky”. I admit, I may step over to the tacky side with a few of my choices. If you’re looking for classier Halloween decor, let this be a mini-guide! 🎃

Warning: most of the items featured in this post are from several seasons ago. They may or may not be available now.

These caged raven string lights are from Pottery Barn.

Truthfully, I’m a very picky home decorator.  Lime green, orange, and “Halloween purple” have no place in my house; and neither do smiling Jack O’ Lanterns or anything that associates with having a “happy” Halloween. Halloween is supposed to be scary, right? I want any and all visitors to get the heebie jeebies upon entering out home, is that too much to ask?

You can find these spooky medallion plates at Williams Sonoma.

What To Look For

When shopping for decor, I look for things that are functional and things that will last a long time. I won’t be using these things for just one season; I’ll be using them daily. I stay away from plastic or melamine plates and cups. I avoid plastic “decoration” type items, and items with glitter.

The best time to shop for home decor for me is Halloween season. You can’t find classy and creepy things all year long. Halloween season is undoubtedly the one and only shopping season for me. I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite online shops to make it easier on those of you with similar tastes!

West Elm has these terracotta skull candelabras.

Consider These

Y’all, don’t sleep on Etsy. You could get yourself a ouija board gallery wall, or a bat wine set. Etsy has come so far since I wrote this post — and they were pretty epic back then, too.

This used to be available on Etsy, but the creator took it down. DIY opportunity, maybe?

Other honorable mentions include Killstar‘s all-year-round edgy home section, Sourpuss Clothing for some pin-up and vintage horror finds, and good ol’ Amazon with it’s huge selection.

There’s plenty to choose from online and in person if you shop at the right time, and know where to look. Don’t be afraid to DIY a few pieces if you can’t find anything that fits your specific idea. Remember how I crafted my own werewolf taxidermy, 7ft tall Jack Skellington, gargoyle stocking holders, and Nightmare Before Christmas jars for my kitchen? Good times. 🥀
