Determining the sex of your baby might be your favorite part of pregnancy. That is, if you haven’t decided to go Team Green and navigate through these 9 months being gender neutral in the first place! 🍼
It’s 2019 and it should be noted that biological sex and gender are “becoming” sensitive subjects. In reality, it’s always been a touchy subject as long as gender dysphoria has existed — forever. Gender dysphoria is a condition where a person’s biological sex (the parts between their legs) doesn’t match their gender identity (what they feel).
When you reveal your child’s gender to your loved ones, what you’re really revealing is their biological sex; they’ll let you know whether they feel more masculine or feminine in the future.
Let’s use sex reveals as a loose guide, and allow for our children to grow into the person they want to be. 🥰

Old Wives Tales
Old wives tales are very old superstitions with zero science behind them. We should approach these as a novelty because they are not an accurate representation of what your baby’s sex will be — they’re just fun! We explored a handful of these theories in the beginning of my pregnancy and they definitely swayed in one direction. 🎀
Acne – girls steal your beauty, they say, and I’ve been having breakouts galore!
Morning sickness – none, could be a boy!
Heart rate 170 – According to the old wives tales, if it’s above 140, it’s a girl and below 140 it’s a boy!
Ramzi Theory – This is a theory based on the location of your placenta. Before making a mistake on it myself, I sent a sonogram photo off to the gender pros over at The Gender Experts. They analyzed my 8 week sonogram, and predicted I will be having a baby girl.
What’s The Truth? Gourd Knows
My husband and I found out Little Pumpkin’s biological sex way back when I was 16 weeks (4 months) pregnant via sonogram. We even waited until we had another sonogram at 20 weeks to confirm! Since then, we’ve been hoarding this information until we took spooky, Halloween-themed photos to announce with. 🎃
We’re excited to announce that Little Pumpkin is a Boy! 💙

Thank goodness Miranda over at Spooky Little Halloween had a tutorial for making a smoking pumpkin. My husband carved a Michael’s craft pumpkin and we picked up a few blue smoke bombs to ignite in the back yard. I sat in the grass with my camera, clicking away to get the perfect shot. It was probably the happiest reason ever to be choking on smoke — I was smelling gun powder for several hours afterwards! 😅
We’re so excited to refer to him as a he, instead of an it or “the baby.” Although some people think the subject of a baby’s biological sex is weird and unnecessary, we still wanted to celebrate our baby (and my first pregnancy!) in a special way. 🤰🏼💙

2 years agoI definitely wanted to know the sex of my baby. I’m a planner so I like to know things in advance and feel like the whole experience of being a parent is enough of a surprise for me. To be honest, I wanted a girl and was bummed for about a week trying to wrap my head around having a boy. But then I did and I’m so happy I have a boy, so things work out the way they should and I wouldn’t change them for anything! Congratulations to you, it’s an exciting journey!

2 years agoCongratulations on your blue pumpkin! (photo turned out fab, by the way!) That’s so exciting and I love your discussion. I’m right there with you and couldn’t wait to find out the gender of my first and I’m counting down the days until we can find out the gender for our second. It’s a great way to celebrate pregnancy and I’m glad you got to do so in such a creative way!
