When it comes to reviewing palettes, it takes me forever and a day. That’s because I like to practically roll in and use it long enough to form a rock solid opinion. With that said, I’ve been sittin’ on this one for months. Forget about rock solid. This one is a diamond with how long I’ve been sitting on it. 💍
Most of the products I’ve purchased this year have been Tarte; but I definitely needed to get my foot in the door and get to know the brand. What I’ve got here is the Tarteist Pro Amazonian Clay palette. Oh, you fancy, huh? ✨
Tarteist Pro Palette
Tarte’s Tarteist Pro palette is a hefty thing with 20 eye shadow shades; 16 being matte and 4 being shimmery. The colors are mostly neutral, and safe. You’ve got your basic black and your almost-white, your cream color, which is perfect for your under-brow highlighting duties. A plum, purple, maroon, and a red. Enough to create quite a variety of looks if you include the shimmery shades as well.
A Solid Foundation
The Tarteist Pro palette has a plastic matte black cover with the palette title printed in metallic lettering in the center. When you flip open the lid, you’ll be delighted to find a big, clear, high-quality mirror and all 20 eye shadows sitting pretty in plastic gold casing.
The shadow names are printed right below the shades, and each shadow except the shimmery ones have “tarte” stamped on them. The shimmer shades are in round pans on the right side of the palette, setting them apart from the rest because they’re ✨special✨.
The palette snaps open and closed easily, without a struggle. The palette does not, however, contain a brush. We don’t live in a perfect world, so that is understandable.
Colors + Performance
The shadows are buttery to the touch and have a sweet scent to them. After getting to know the Tarte brand a bit, this is absolutely expected. No, the sweet smelling shadows do not attract ants. 🚫🐜
The shimmery shades are pretty rad of course, but I’m totally appreciating the duochrome named Trendy. Notice how Vintage, which is the white shade, is practically the same color as my hand. You can’t even see it, it looks like I forgot a swatch. 🙈
Do You Need It, Though?
The Tarteist Pro palette truly is an “everything you need eye,” palette if you’re a neutrals person that doesn’t experiment too often. You’ve got your basic shades, a few shades to turn any look into a smoky eye, add some shimmer and do a toned down look. This is the perfect eye palette to bring with you traveling if you’re going to be gone for a few weeks, to a few months.
If you’re just starting to experiment with eye looks, you need it. If you love neutrals and you travel, you need it. You don’t need it if you like to play with bold and bright colors. However, the quality is great for the price so if you’re digging the colors… this may be a match for you. 😘 You can pick this up for $53 at Sephora, Ulta or on the Tarte website.
